The North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH) will provide a wide range of programming services including traditional healing, primary care, health promotion, chronic disease management, family-focused maternal/child health care, mental wellness care, diabetes care, and a culturally integrated licensed day care facility. All of the programs are to be delivered in a culturally safe manner to the local urban Indigenous population in addition to our partner First Nations, Nipissing, Temagami and Dokis First Nations. This new Indigenous Primary Health Care team seeks a motivated, self-starter who is passionate about positive health outcomes for Indigenous people.

Under the direction of the Executive Director of the North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH), this position will be responsible to assist in the delivery of culturally competent and safe health and patient care management focusing on Maternal/Child and Sexual Health as part of an inter-professional team at the North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH).


  • A Baccalaureate in Nursing and registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current membership with RNAO, including professional liability insurance program.
  • Knowledge of cultural teachings and understanding of the roles of women, traditional parenting, and ways of being.
  • Must have experience of health promotion and disease prevention strategies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of reportable diseases, the process and how to counsel patients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge surrounding the developmental stages of early life, referral process/community resources. for children not meeting developmental milestones, routine immunizations for children/youth.
  • Must have experience conducting prenatal/postnatal assessment, documentation, screening options, using community resources and addressing common patient concerns.
  • Must be proficient in both computer hardware and various software programs for recording documentation and maintain accurate and up-to-date automated documentation on case files.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and ethics and thorough knowledge of PHIPA.
  • Must have current First Aid/CPR, WHMIS certification.
  • Understanding of the Mental Health and Child, Youth & Family Services Acts.
  • Prior work-related experience in maternal/child and sexual health.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if necessary.
  • Must have valid Ontario Class G Driver's License and have access to a reliable vehicle.

  • Appreciation for the diversity of services offered at the Hub including traditional healing and mainstream services.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and co-operatively as an integral member of a primary health care team.


  • Conducting patient interviews and taking medical histories;
  • Performing duties within the scope of practice of the RN including but not limited to, well child/infant assessments, immunizations, prenatal and postnatal assessments, identification of concerns/complications outside of their expertise, sexual health histories and education, development of educational programs for clients;
  • Assessing children in all developmental stages of life;
  • Identifying patients in need of further assessment and starting the referral process or connection with community resources;
  • Routine immunizations for children/youth and prenatal/postnatal patients;
  • Consulting and collaborating with other professional staff concerning clinical issues;
  • Providing training and functional guidance to professional staff and others;
  • Participating in the development, implementations and evaluation of policies, procedures and protocols to ensure comprehensive and consistent delivery of excellent client care;
  • Developing and administering a health care plan appropriate to client needs, including in participating in case management and referral to healthcare and/or social agencies;
  • Ensuring proper monitoring/follow up care with clients;
  • Promoting and evaluating services provided and modifying as necessary;
  • Working collaboratively with health care providers in providing excellent client care using evidence­ based practice;
  • Participating in appropriate staff development activities and sharing learning with other members of the health care team;
  • Maintaining clinical knowledge through continuing educational endeavors;
  • Travel for work related matters; and,
  • Other duties as required.

A current Criminal/Police Records Check and Vulnerable Persons check is a requirement for this position.
